Association of California Insurance Companies

ACIC is the largest, oldest and most diverse state property/casualty trade association representing insurers before legislators and regulators in California.

ACIC represents more than 300 property/casualty insurance companies doing business in California. Sixty nine ACIC members are domiciled in California, more than any other insurance association. And, many of ACIC’s members have regional offices established in communities throughout the state. ACIC member companies write 40.9 percent of the property/casualty insurance in California, including 56.1 percent of personal automobile insurance, 42.8 percent of commercial automobile insurance, 39 percent of homeowners insurance, 32.5 percent of business insurance and 46 percent of private workerscompensation insurance.

California Department of Insurance

The California Department of Insurance (CDI), established in 1868, is the agency charged with overseeing the regulation of insurance regulations, enforcing statutes mandating consumer protections, educating consumers, and fostering the stability of insurance markets in the state of California. The CDI has authority over how the insurance industry conducts business within California, and licenses and regulates the rates and practices of insurance companies, agents, and brokers in the state.

Delta Dental is the largest dental plan system in the United States. The Delta Dental Plans Association comprises 39 independent Delta Dental member companies operating in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. These member companies provide coverage to 50 million people, enrolled in over 88,000 groups. While many of the Delta Dental member companies and the Delta Dental Plans Association (DDPA) are non-profit organizations, a few of the member companies have for-profit segments.

California Major Risk Medical Insurance Program

The California Major Risk Medical Insurance Program (MRMIP) provides health insurance for Californian citizens who are unable to obtain coverage in the individual health insurance market because of their pre-existing conditions. Californians qualifying for the program, participate in the cost of their coverage by paying premiums. The State of California supplements those premiums to cover the cost of care in MRMIP. Tobacco tax funds currently subsidize the MRMIP.
